Water Tower Place Cinemas

Viewing: Photo | Street View

The Water Tower Place Cinemas was opened April 20, 1987 as Gastonia’s only discount theatre under Charlotte based Multi-Cinema Corporation which operated discount theatres throughout North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The Water Tower Place Cinemas opened as a four screen theatre with discount prices. Later during the mid-1980’s the Water Tower Place Cinemas expanded its operation from four screes to ten screens, making it the largest discount multiplex theatre in all of Gaston County.

It closed in 2003, and from a street view you can still the theatre building in the right rear of the Water Tower Plaza Shopping Center.

I have found the original ad for the opening of this theatre and it did not open in 1985. I will revise this and posted onto the Cinema Treasures site.

At the time of its opening,it replaced the Village Twin Theatres which at the time Carmike turned it into a second-run discount house.
