The Civic Theater opened on October 21, 1936. The theater was owned by O. F. Sullivan. As a movie theater, the Civic Theatre was closed by 1960. The theater was remodeled and renamed the Civic Playhouse which was a live performance venue. The Civic Playhouse operated until around 1973. The building was then sold to the Wichita State Bank in 1973 and was demolished in 1977.
