In June 1934 the Arcadia cinema lease was taken over by Roxy Theatres Ltd - formed in 1929 by a group of senior employees who had left the Sydney Prince Edward (1924) to open the Parramatta Roxy Cinema (1930). The Arcadia closed 31st May 1935 for demolition. On 10th August 1935 the new Cameo opened on the site under house manager Freddy Burr. He remained there until 1946, when the Cameo - and the Parramatta Roxy - were sold to Hoyts Theatres Ltd.
