Taking over from an earlier Rialto Theatre at a different address (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Rialto Theatre had grand opening on April 30, 1937. Originally it had 612 seats, but some were removed to accommodate the wider screen movies of the 1950’s.
The Rialto Theatre is in a small resort area, and often played two movies a week, with a different one on Friday and Saturday.

From the 1940s a photo postcard image of the Rialto in Aitkin.
I added a page for the Moveum Theatre which was located at 211 Minnesota Avenue N, and is still standing today as a Radio Shack. That one was renamed the Electric and then Rialto before this one was built. It closed when this one opened in 1937.
New page for the original Moveum Theatre down the street.

Per the Docomomo US MN Registry, the architect was Perry E. Crosier, prodigious cinema designer based out of Minneapolis.
