Brislington Picture House

Located in the Brislington district, southeast of the city centre. The Empress Cinema was opened in 1913, but was soon re-named Bristol Picture House. By 1914 it had been re-named Brislington Picture House. It had 500 seats.

Around 1930 it was equipped with a Mihaly sound system. In 1938 it was enlarged to 650 seats and a British Talking Pictures(BTP) sound system was installed.

Operated by the Tomkins family, it was closed at Christmas, 1956, and was used for storage.

In the early-1960’s it was converted into a bingo club, which continued to operate into at least the 1980’s. It has been converted into flats.
