Cinema Odeon

The Cinema Odeon is one of once four, now still three glorious single-screen cinema-theaters in the sea-side city of Viareggio. The cinema is situated on the beach strollway (the “Passeggiata”), which boasts some of the most marvelous art-nouveau buildings.

The Cinema Odeon was opened in 1947, the site on which it was built had also previously been occupied by a cinema that burnt down in 1939. The Cinema Odeon distinguishes itself by the sheer size of the screening room. Occupying two storeys, you have a really panoramic view of the screen when you sit in the slightly raised section at the back of the theater (no balcony).

The cinema screens mostly blockbuster films, the viewing of which is much fun in this theatre provided the film is any good. Apart from its hugeness, the cinema does not have any specific features. The approximately 800 seats have blue covers, for the rest the cinema lacks decor. Judging its style the cinema slightly resembles a gym, a feature that it shared with the recently closed Cinema Eolo also on the Passeggiata. The cinema is mostly frequented by young people that want to see the latest box office success.
