Tower Cinema

The Tower Cinema opened on 20th December 1920, replacing the Picture Playhouse that had operated from March 1912 to July 1920. It had seating on two levels with a proscenium width of 37ft and was later to have a Western Electric(WE) sound system.

The Tower Cinema was closed in 1965 due to a serious fire but reopened in 1968. Final closure was on 18th December 1976. The building has had a variety of uses since; in 2000 it was a car sales/hire firm. More recently it has become a storeroom for a printers firm. It is believed many of the original fittings are still in place.
