Regal Hamilton Place 8

Opened on January 11, 1991 as the Hamilton Cinema 10-17, this theater was renamed Hamilton Place 8 after the old 9-screen Hamilton Place Mall theater closed in the late-2000’s. This location was operating as a second-run or discount theatre until it closed in April 2016 for renovations to be carried out. It reopened in September 2016.

Regal just announced it’s intention to upgrade this theater to a luxury, first run, destination place.

This theater’s discount house days are over: the theater has now closed to begin its conversion into a luxury recliner theater.

Some of the original seating capacities here before the renovations began:

  • Theaters 1 & 4 – 146 seats

  • Theater 5 – 200 seats

  • Theater 6 – 318 seats

  • Theater 7 – 201 seats

  • Theater 8 – 174 seats

Don’t know the capacities for Theaters 2 & 3, but I can assume that they held roughly between 100 to 120 seats.

  • Theater 4 – 54 seats

  • Theaters 5 & 7 – 81 seats

  • Theater 6 – 145 seats

  • Theater 8 – 70 seats

Did UA ever operate this theatre, or the 9-plex inside the mall?

I believe this one was always a Regal, while the 9-plex in the mall was originally a UA theater before being acquired by Regal.

It’s strange because I have information that suggests the day that this theatre opened Regal acquired a string of theatres from UA (Knoxville Center 10, Capri Cinema 4, Northgate Crossing, Jackson Cinema 10, Southbrook Cinema 7). They didn’t get the 9-plex until almost a year and a half later.

This was a nice place to see movies in the early to mid 90s.
