Opened on August 6, 1930, the Ideal Theatre was likely one of the first constructed for the purpose of showing talking pictures. It’s spectacular neon marquee is a wonderful sight along McEwan Street.

The Ideal was part of the Olson Circuit in the early sixties. Owner was N. James Olson. At that time, this circuit also ran theaters in Gaylord, Houghton Lake, Rosebush and West Branch, MI.
By 1981, the Ideal had been sold to Willard Koch of Clare, MI.
