George Cinema

In Troon, South Ayrshire, the Embassy Cinema opened in 1937. It had been built for the K.R. Blair circuit, and had a cloud-shaped façade in cream tiles, with shop units either side of main entrance. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system.

Taken over by the George Palmer circuit in 1946, it was soon renamed the George Cinema.

Closed as a cinema in 1974, it lay derelict for a while, before the foyer and auditorium were demolished in 1986/7 to allow for the construction of some flats.

Only the shop units on either side - still with their cream tiles - remain.
