Palais Hall and Gardens

The Big Bell gold mine, 29 km west of Cue, opened first in 1904. The Palais Hall opened on 2nd October 1937 with 200 seats, and the Gardens in 1938 with 200 seats. Located on Pitt Street at the southwest corner of Meehan Street. The first screenings in the Palais Hall and Gardens was in 1938. Movie screenings finished in 1954, or 1960/1961? after the mine closed.

After the mine closed, the town was deserted and gradually disappeared. The mine reopened in 1987, but twine has grown up around it. The only remains now are the remains of the hotel and church left. There is no sign of the Hall(or Gardens?) The Palais Hall and Gardens was diagonally opposite the hotel. I think the Hall and(Gardens?) may have just fallen down(and/or) rotted away, or been demolished? The mine closed in 2003, and Big Bell is now a ghost town.
