The 61st Street Theater didn’t last very long. By May 17, 1957, the Chicago Tribune reported in a short article that the congregation of St. Stephen Baptist Church at this address were dedicating their new organ.

From Motion Picture Herald March 24, 1956:

“The 40 year-old Amo theater, modernized from stem to stern, reopened March 15 under the new name 61st Street theater. The manager is Don Young.”

From Motography, Jul-Sept 1916: “The Vernon Theater, Sixty-first street and Vernon avenue, Chicago, was opened June 17. The theater seats 800. Music is furnished by a $10,000 Bartola de Luxe.”
