Teatro Campoamor

The Teatro Albizu was inaugurated December 17, 1870, presenting vaudeville shows. By 1918, a fire destroyed the theater and the original Teatro Campoamor was erected on its place. The Teatro Campoamor was an immensely popular venue, showing both, vaudeville and movies. Its life was short but intense. Destroyed by another fire in 1923, its name (Campoamor) was transferred to a newer theater built near by, named Teatro Capitolio and in the old site was built the Palace of the Asturian Center, that today is part of the Museum of Fine Arts in Habana. Up to today, the former Capitolio Theater is keeping the name Campoamor.
