New York’s two largest showplaces opened new programs on the same day, as well as at the same morning times…Peck & Bacall helped to draw more customers than Tracy & Hepburn. The Music Hall had a first week’s gross of abount $143,000, while the Roxy did $70,000, according to trade press reports. The Roxy had been expecting more with “teen idol” Tommy Sands on stage, but many of his fans may have been too young to attend unaccompanied.
