The Gem Theatre was opened prior to 1926. Around 1932/1933 it was renamed Granada Theatre. Allen Gardner had a mobile van to advertise the theatre so that citizens always knew the feature. By 1935 when Gardner sold the 250-seat theatre, it was updated and renamed the Stuart Theatre becoming a 166-seat venue. The Stuart Theatre was still open in 1957.

When the Stuart Theatre closed, residents had to drive around 30 miles to the nearest theatre until a new all-digital, all-volunteer venue the Murphy Theatre & Media Center opened in 2013.

The Granada Theatre and Allen Gardner were mentioned in the August 11, 1931, issue of Motion Picture Herald, and again in the April 2, 1932, issue of the same journal.
