Imperial Theatre

The Hagan Opera House was located at the south-east corner of Pine Street and N. 10th Street. It was built for Oliver L. Hagan and was designed by architect John Bailey McElphatrick and his son William H. McElphatrick in a Renaissance Revival style. The building featured a 150ft tall four-faced clock tower on the corner. Seating in the auditorium was on three levels with ten boxes and four loges. Opened on November 2, 1891 with the comic opera “The Queen’s Mate”.

In 1897 it was renamed Imperial Theatre and went over to presenting melodrama. Eventually it was screening movies and also presenting melodrama & burlesque. It was closed in 1918. In 1921 it was converted into retail and office space. It has since been demolished.
