The Elite Theater opened around 1910 in a building dating back to the early-1880’s which formerly housed retail and a restaurant. It was the first movie house in Le Mars. Not only featuring silent movies, the Elite Theater also hosted lectures and town gatherings. The theater was closed by the mid-1930’s.
In 1939, the theater was completely remodeled in Streamline Moderne style and reopened as the Pix Theater. It was closed by the mid-1950’s. In 1961, the building was remodeled and returned to retail use, as it has remained since. It currently is home to a nail salon.
