The Shafter Theatre was opened on May 29, 1937 with Janet Gaynor in “A Star Is Born”. It was operated by the Panero Theatres chain and opened with 730 seats on a stadium plan with a raised section at the rear, rather than a conventional balcony. It was still open in 1957.
