The Star Theatre launched in downtown Hondo on June 14, 1913. The 550-seat venue started with live vaudeville and worked in motion pictures over time converting to full-time film theatre.

In November of 1924, the superior Colonial Theatre opened pressuring the old Star Theatre. The management closed the Star Theatre after showing of “Ruggles of Red Gap” starring Edwatd Everett Horton on April 11, 1925. The theatre and its contents were offered for sale two weeks later. It did not re-open with the space converted to other purposes.
