The Portland Theatre was launched by Gettess Fulwood Lee and his wife Loma Rosé Lee on November 14, 1946 with Monty Woolley in “Irish Eyes are Smiling” and live music by the Sue Tedford All-Girl Quartet. The theatre had several other operators including its final operators, Myrle and Orpha “Dell” Nix partnering with C.R. Kretzmeier using their last name initials to rebrand as the NK Theatre in December of 1949. The NK officially opened January 7, 1950 and closed in 1955. The space was repurposed for a flower shop and became other businesses.
