Robert A. Moore launched the Kanon Theatre in downtown Duncannon likely on a 25-year lease. Equipped with Simplex projectors, RCA sound and plush back seats, the theatre launched July 16, 1948 - a year of construction after fire had closed the town’s Fox Theatre in 1947. The first feature was Ann Southern and Jack Carson in “April Showers”.

The Kanon Theatre closed after an April 5, 1973 showing John Wayne in “The Cowboys” likely at end of lease. The theatre rode off into the sunset demolished August 22, 1973 to make way for a new Handy Market grocery store.
