R.J. Funkhouser launched the Charles Washington Theatre in Ranson, WV on August 5, 1949 . The opening film was Stewart Granger and Valerie Hobson in “Blanche Fury” along with Fox Movietone News and a cartoon. The theatre got around a law banning Sunday operation by donating all profits to charity. The theatre was still operating in the late-1970’s.
