Frank J. Jemison launched the long-running Majestic Theatre in downtown Temple, Oklahoma on April 6, 1914. The former mayor of Temple was also responsible for the building of the town’s city hall, paving the streets and creating a more modern water system. Jemison converted the Majestic Theatre to Vitaphone sound in January of 1930 but had dropped Monday and Tuesday screenings by 1931 as economic conditions were poor.
In 1947, new owner L.D. Burns overhauled the projection equipment likely on a ten-year leasing agreement. In 1957, Bill Wren took on operation of the theatre on the 5-day schedule but within a month closed the theatre on January 31, 1957. The theatre was then vandalized and was used briefly as a church.
On June 16, 1960, Francis Baker relaunched the venue as the Temple Theatre with Lana Turner in “Imitation of Life” and now showing wide-screen CinemaScope features. The Temple Theatre would later go out of business and the building was repurposed.
