Derby Lichtspiele (#3)

Located in the district of Horn to the east of the city. This was the 3rd Derby Lichtspiele to operate in the district. It replaced the first Derby Lichtspiele (1934-1943) at Hornerlandstrasse 191, which was destroyed by Allied bombs in 1943 during World War II and the second (temporary) Derby Lichtspiele housed at the Pachthof school in 1949-1951 (both of these have their own pages on Cinema Treasures).

The new Derby Lichtspiele was built to the plans of architect Richard Fromm and contained a stage in front of the screen. The cinema, like its predecessors was operated by Fritz Rose. The projectors were by AEG and the single channel sound system was by Klangfilm. CinemaScope was installed in 1956.

The 3rd Derby Lichtspiele was closed in 1964 and in 2019 is in use as a Penny mart supermarket.
