Alabama Kino #1

Located in the Eimsbuttel/Eidelstedt district to the northwest of the city. The Eidelstaedter Lichtspiele was built into the ballroom of the restaurant Gasthof Ramke and was opened in 1935. It had 350 seats and was operated by Erwin & Wilhelmine Bolt During World War II in 1942 the cinema was partly demolished and was closed. In 1949 the Edelstaedter Lichtspiele was repaired and reopened, again by Erwin & Wilhelmmine Bolt, with an increased seating capacity of 400. In 1952 Annitha Bolt took over as the operator.

In 1956 it was equipped with CinemaScope. The projectors were by Bauer B 5 Standard and a Klangfilm sound system was installed. The number of seats (by Schroeder & Henzelmann) were reduced to 380. In 1971 the cinema was operated by Horst Kretzer.

In 1977 Hans Peter Jansen & Thomas Zielcke took over (Thomas Zielcke KG). The cinema was re-named Alabama Kino and the number of seats were reduced to 180. (not to be confused with the current Alabama Kino located at Jarrestrasse 20, which has its own page on Cinema Treasures). The Alabama Kino screened arthouse movies, and was famouse for screening double feature programmes of horror, splatter & trash movies. It was closed in 1992.

In 1999 the building was demolished and an apartment block now stands on the site.
