Before the Strand Theatre opened in April 1918, the city of Louisville had 4 theatres between 1915 and 1918. There was the New Theatre, the Lyric Theatre, the Luce Theatre, and the Louisville Theatre.

The Louisville Theatre opened on November 15, 1915. Also, there is also another business complex upstairs of the Louisville Theatre. In June 1931, the Louisville Theatre installed Western Electric sound system, and continued operations until closing in September 1936.
