The town of Nocona had something of a movie theatre war in the late-1930’s. Three theatres were built in the town which had just about 2,500 citizens as two operators battled to control the marketplace. Joe B. Vaughn of the Nocona Theatre carved out space in the former T & O Cash Grocery store to create his Roxy Theatre.

The Roxy Theatre favored westerns and opened April 8, 1939 with Buck Jones in “Hollywood Roundup”. Unfortunately, the theatre burned down March 27, 1942 in the early morning ending its run. (Vaughn’s Nocona Theatre had also burned after a nitrate film fire during a show on June 10, 1939.) The Roxy Theatre’s final films were Johnny Mack Brown in “Arizona Cyclone” on a double bill with Walter Brennan in “Maryland”.
