Millard Fillmore Ball opened the Millstone Theatre in downtown Nocona. The Millstone was designed for motion pictures complete with a pipe organ. The name was a reference to the Ball family mill in Eagle Point from which an artifact from the Millstone was placed in the sidewalk in front of the theatre’s entry. It launched in 1920 and in 1924 was joined by Ball’s Millstone Hotel next door.

The theatre was equipped for sound to stay viable. The Millstone Theatre appears to have ceased operations after the May 22, 1937 screenings of “Ride ‘em Cowboy” with Buck Jones and “Her Husband Lies” with Gail Patrick supported by a chapter of Buck Jones’ serial, “Phantom Rider” with other selected short subjects.
