The Union Filmtheater was opened in 1919 with 610-seats. It was operated by Eduard Hof. In 1937 the Ufa Theatres chain took over and it was re-named Ufa Theater. In 1944 the cinema was badly damaged by Allied bombs during World War II.
In 1947 repairs were carried out and it reopened as Die Kurbel. It was operated by Herbutus Wald Suddeutsche Filmtheaterbetriebe. It was demolished in 1957.
It was replaced by a newly built Die Kurbel, located at Kaiserpassage 6 (which has its own page on Cinema Treasures as the Kinemathek Karlsruhe)
