In Rochdale, Lancashire, Rochdale Riverside represents the next phase, following the re-opening of the River Roch, of the town’s £250m regeneration programme.

Delivered by Rochdale Borough Council’s joint venture partners Genr8 and Kajima Partnerships, Rochdale Riverside is a 200,000 sq ft retail and leisure facility anchored by a 50,000 sq ft M&S store. That, and Next, were the first major retailers to commit to the scheme. The development also benefits from a direct connection to Manchester city centre via an extension to the Metrolink system.

Inevitably, a multiplex was also seen as a significant anchor tenant, and Reel Cinemas duly signed up. Their cinema was due to open on 10th April 2020, but it was delayed by the nationwide lockdown resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, and was not able to open until Saturday 4th July, when the national restrictions on cinema operations were lifted.

The six screens include a ‘Reel Lounge’, boasting even greater levels of comfort and a food and drinks service included in the admission price. Seating capacities are: Screen 1:66, Screen 2:116, Screen 3:86, Screen 4:101, Screen 5:62 and Reel Lounge:62.
