The Laurel Auditorium Theatre was opened in the International Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F) Lodge on December 15, 1913 with a live stage play of “Where the Trail Divides”. The town was served at that time by J.H. Cory’s Star Theatre for movies. That changed when the city and I.O.O.F. struck a deal in February of 1916 that would provide electrical service and a place for the city’s auditorium.
The venue became the City Auditorium which was home to the City Auditorium Theatre which regularly showed contemporary films in addition to meetings. There were too many owners to list but the screenings there would last until the year 1936 with just a minor discontinuance in 1931 when the heating plant went out.
A fire on January 27, 1936 ended the City Auditorium’s theatrical run. But the City took on the property eventually repairing it. The building was still in use as of the 2020’s.
