Looks like renovations are finished – it is now advertised as a 9,000 square foot sales/show space. The exterior looks great!
The architect was the firm of Kennerly & Stiegemeyer.

I’m so excited they are renovating this theater. I spent many many happy hours there as a little kid in the fifties, when it was the OzÃ¥rk, and lucky me—within walking distance of my childhood home. Does anyone know the timeline on the preservation?
Here is a link to a photo taken of the Ozark/Webster Groves Theatre taken on 07/14/05.

This should also be listed as the Webster Groves Cinema since that is what it was known by in its last years of operation. Passed by recently and the old Ozark sign above the front of the building is in place and the two towers on each side of the front facade have been uncovered but it seems the lobby is still in use as retail.
After the citizens of Webster Groves voted against an ordinance blighting the theatre and also voated against a development plan by the Mills Corp to obtain the property by immenant domain the restoration group is now in the process of developing the theatre into its original use as a theatre and performaing arts venue.
At time movies were shown only six says a week at the Ozark until the Blue Laws were repealed in 1937. Then it went to seven day a week operations. The original thetre had a Mission Style facade and that is what they want to restore it to as close as possible. Sometime during the 70’s it was given a face lift to bring it up to the standards of the modern day cinema. That is when it became the Webster Groves Cinema under the Arthur Theatre banner.
I sincerely hope the presevation group succeeds in their mission.
The later part of its days as a motion picture theatre it was known as the Webster Groves Cinema and was operated by Arthur Theatres.
