Nu-Star Theatre

I can’t find a lot of information about this theatre.

The locations on 2 similar names in Utah has to be one of the most confusing and disappointing landmarks in the entire state, because it was located just 3 miles away from 2 small areas, Sunnyside and Sunnydale. Unlike most theatres, the Nu-Star Theatre is actually located inside the city’s own community center. The theatre opened on December 25, 1949. When it opened, many toys and useful gifts were awarded to children and adults in attendance of the grand opening feature.

A shorter time right after its grand opening, the Sunnyside Welfare Association stepped inside the theatre that evening to consider the possibility on changing show plans to admittance on individual ticketing to any show during the month. Henry T. Murphy, the chairman, had appointed 3 other committees to investigate the matter further and bring a report to the next welfare board meeting. Its semi-monthly welfare show had ben held as usual the following Thursday, but a triple showing will be given instead of a double feature. Concerns were claimed, and it proves workable as a deal was made. They called it “in general” but there are many problems to be considered before anything conclusive is been done. The members also notified later on through the union locals of the progress of negotiations on it.

The Nu-Star Theatre first showed first-run films until 1952, and would later flip the table for Spanish films until the CinemaScope installation in 1954 (the businessman installed the screen later that mid-August). CinemaScope at the Nu-Star Theatre literally killed the Spanish success the following month, and it went back screening first-run English films.

The theatre continued to operate in the 1960’s, but was unknown when the theatre closed its doors. So the hunt still continues.
