The Capitol Theatre was a new-build facility in downtown Madison, Nebraska. It appears to have opened on March 18, 1930 with a live stage play while it awaited its RCA Photophone sound system which came a month later.

On Thanksgiving Day 1954, the Capitol Theatre switched to widescreen projection to play CinemaScope films. The theatre closed November 1, 1959 after a Halloween marathon screening and likely at the end of a 30-year leasing agreement.
