Daudt’s Opera House appears to have opened in 1907 in downtown Scotia. That year, motion pictures were also added to the mix with live programming. The 400-seat venue was programmed by Frank Daudt.

In January of 1922, the venue’s name changed to the Scotia Theatre which moved to a more regular playing of motion pictures. At what appears to be the 15-year mark, Harry G. Selk took on the operation renaming it as the Selk Theatre or Selk’s Theatre in November of 1922. E.H. Schilling took over the theatre in 1929 and returned its name to the Scotia Theatre playing silent films.

The theatre appears to close as a silent house a year later. The venue reverted to the Scotia Opera House. Jack Hepp wired it for sound reopening it as the Loup Theatre in 1936. Selk would take over the operation once again and it appears to have closed at the end of a ten-lease in 1946 and moved to the Shadle Building.

The “new” Loup Theatre opened in 1946 and closed likely at the end of another 10-year lease on May 27, 1956 with Tommy Cook in “Teenage Crime War”. Rumors of reopening occurred thereafter but it appears that Scotia went theatre-less from that point forward. Given that the town had a population of fewer than 500 residents, the nearly 50-year run was fairly impressive.
