The Miller Opera House appears to have opened in 1900. It later became the place where many residents saw their first moving pictures. The venue gravitated to full-time motion pictures in 1924 under the name of the Ray Theatre. It would get a sound system around 1930 to remain viable and an air conditioning system, as well.

The Ray Theatre also hosted high school plays, business meetings, agricultural demonstrations and auctions. When the nearby Star Theatre in Sumner burned down in 1927, the nearest movie theatre for that population some six miles away was the Ray Theatre.

The Ray Theatre was joined in 1940 by the Kay Theatre in Sumner which appears to have launched in the former Star Theatre building. They co-existed into the television era in the 1950’s. However, their population had sunk to 267 in Sumner and just 179 in Miller. That was not enough for either theatre to remain viable.
