Opened in 1929, the Ritz Theatre was operated by B.M. Poe, who operated the theatre since its opening but ended his theatre career after he was arrested and charged with a count of attempting an assault by planning to set its nearby successor, the Lyric Theatre, on fire with a usage of gasoline by two boys who each gave themselves $50 by Mr. Poe in May 1932. The Ritz Theatre was immediately closed.

It was renamed and reopened as Palace Theatre and closed on June 29, 1935 with Reb Russell in “The Man From Hell”. It was converted into a J.B. Dick & Company 5/10c store which opened on September 14, 1935.
