Owner Jack Pierce had previously added the Time Theatre to downtown Stigler in 1942 replacing the thirty-year old Lyric Theatre. A fire in April of 1942 at Pierce’s Cabin Theatre, has secondary operation that primarily showed westerns four days a week, ended that operation. So with the Time Theatre going strong, Pierce added the new-build Place Theatre so he could have both the Time Theatre and Place Theatre.

During the construction of the Place Theatre, Pierce sold the former Cabin Theatre in July of 1946. The Place Theatre debuted on August 29, 1946 likely on a ten-year lease. By the TV age, the theatre was down to twice a week operation. In 1953, Pierce’s opening of the Meadow Drive-In dropped the Place Theatre to partial year usage. The February 25, 1955 screening of “The Road Cop” with Fred MacMurray appears to have ended the Place Theatre’s movie offerings.

The Place Theatre venue hosted church services in 1956/7. A deconstruction sale took place in 1957 as the venue was converted to a grocery store.
