The Dorothy Theatre was opened by 1927.

On New Years Day 1932, the Dorothy Theatre was completely destroyed by a fire, with it being caused by the 12ft projection booth shortly after its afternoon run of an unknown movie. This came almost two months after new seats were added in the theatre in November 1931.

The fire not just destroyed the projector, a few rolls of film and the entire room, but the fire also killed 27-year-old operator L.L. Hickman as well who died on-scene before the fire was extinguished due to him being trapped by the door which was covered in smoke as he cannot find the lock for the door to unlock it. Hickman’s fate was initially reported as in stable condition from first-degree burns. Sam Parish, the owner of the Dorothy Theatre, was injured in the fire with severe bruises from the fire. Portions of the stage and the offices were damaged as well.

The Dorothy Theatre reopened with new management (due to the projectionist’s death and the owner’s injury) on February 15, 1932. A new neon sign was added later that August.

The Dorothy Theatre still open in 1943, but closed for the final time during World War II.
