The Empress opened in 1916, built for August Eugene “Cap” Lathrop and located on Second Avenue. In 1917, a 2/11 Kimball organ was installed in the Empress (which was removed before it closed in the early 50s).

Today the building houses retail stores.

This theater building still stands. It is called Co-Op Plaza and has three retail stores in the former theater. The seat count given is 670 seats. The address is:

Anchorage, AK 99501

The Film Daily Yearbook;1941 and 1943 editions give a seating capacity of 450.

This is the Empress on Fourth Avenue in Anchorage. The Second Street address is for the Empress in Fairbanks.
