The Grand Electric Theatre was opened on 28th November 1911. It was operated by the United Electric Theatres Ltd. chain. Initially the film programme also contained two acts of variety on the stage. The proscenium was 20ft wide. By 1927 the Grand Electric Theatre had been taken over and operated by the Baker Brothers. It had been equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system. They closed it in 1957.

In 2023 the building is in use as the Admiral Casino.
