Jewell Theatre

This small and simple theatre appears on the 1914 Sanborn in the northern storefront of a single story brick commercial block. No earlier maps are available, but this likely dated to no earlier than the 1890’s. The Jewell Theatre was operated by Charles Elliot and hosted vaudeville troupes and silent movies.

Sidell was never very large, and it may have been difficult to run a profitable theatre here. It was closed in 1924 and the 1928 map shows this portion used as a store, and no replacement to be seen.

Much of downtown has disappeared, but these buildings remain.
