Cavern Theatre - November, 2010

Viewing: Photo | Street View

The Cavern Theatre was opened in 1951. Your basic box with a unique curved lobby. Currently working with a theatre design consultant and an architect. The proposed completed project will be a theatre that will be for live stage and motion picture venues.

A 1973 photo of the Cavern during better times showing “Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.” A cold, snowy February 1986 photo here and a July 1988 photo here

The architect of the Cavern Theatre was Jack Corgan.

From the Carlsbad Current-Argus:
“The Cavern Theater, a place many local Baby Boomers remember, opened in 1951. It was owned by Ray Bartlett and his son, Bill, and their partner, Theater Enterprises. The foundation was laid in 1946, but construction didn’t begin until 1950. Jack Corgan of Dallas was the architect and J.D. Waller of Roswell was the contractor.”
