This area did have a couple of theaters before the four-screen quad Koto-Honjo-Ritz-Kingeki Theater opened its doors on November 1, 1983 shortly after the completion of the Rakutenchi Building’s first phase.

The theaters were named after its previous theaters that served the area including the Koto Theater (December 3, 1937-March 10, 1945 & July 15, 1963-October 30, 1983), and the Honjo Theater (July 15, 1963-May 26, 1971).

On November 5, 1986, a nearby Kinshicho Scala Theater (or the theater’s fifth-screen; named after the short-lived Kinshicho Theater that operated in the 1950’s) opened its doors by the Seiyu chain and operators Tokyo Rakutenchi and Kineka Kinshicho. The Kinshicho Scala Theater closed on January 31, 1994 when it was split into two reopening as the Kinshicho Scala Theater 1 & 2 later on.

On July 10, 1999, two new theaters were built in together with the existing six screens. It was then organized as the Kinshicho Cinema 8 Rakutenchi.

On April 20, 2006, the nearby TOHO Cinemas Kinshicho (now known as TOHO Cinemas Kinshicho Orinas) opened in Orinas at the north exit of Kinshicho Station. At that same time, the Kinshicho Cinema 8 Rakutenchi name reverted into Rakutenchi Cinemas Kinshi, and four of its eight screens closed its doors for the final time leaving back as a 4-screen quad theater. The theater had a capacity of 966 seats, with 388 at Screen 1, 248 at Screen 3, and 165 seats in both Screens 2 and 4. Screens 1 and 2 were located on the 6th floor while Screens 3 and 4 were located on the 4th floor.

On July 1, 2018, the theater closed its doors shortly before it entered a long-term closure for renovation the following day. The theater reopened as the TOHO Cinemas Kinshicho Rakutenchi on November 16, 2018. The capacity of the theater was downgraded at the time of reopening to 851 seats with 349 seats at Screen 1, 212 at Screen 3, and 145 each for both Screens 2 and 4. All auditoriums have two wheelchairs each.
