Community Theatre

The City Hall was constructed in 1931-32 after a bond election raised funding. It was a large brick building of one story with a half basement below. It included a large main room which could be used for dances, meetings, etc. A ticket and projection booth were included, and movies were also shown in what was named the Community Theatre by 1941 (no seating capacity was given in Film Daily Yearbooks).

It’s unclear how formal the cinema operation was, or how long it persisted (it had gone from listings in the 1950 edition of Film Daily Yearbook). The city used the building until 1997, when it was given to the local historical society, who run, or ran a museum there with limited hours. Apparently the heat and water have been disconnected, but the building appears to be in decent shape.
