Pamir Cinema

The most popular cinema in downtown Kabul. On the ground floor of a 14 story tower, Kabul’s second highest building after the communication ministry building. The theatre reopened in 2002, a few weeks after the fall of the Taliban regime.

The Pamir Cinema was damaged by a suicide bomber on 18th January 2010.

The Pamir Cinema was closed in August 2021 following the Taliban regaining control of the country. It is not known when-or-if it will re-open.

What kind of programming does the Pamir have? Is this where that incredible Afghani film “Osama,” directed by Siddiq Darmak and currently showing in the United States, played in Kabul?
