The Alpha Theatre opened in 1928 seating 550. The theatre had a very appealing front facade at the time but was severely altered when it closed in the 60’s. It has since been used as various retail outlets. You could walk right past it today and never know that the theatre ever existed.

It seems odd for a neighborhood house playing “To Have and Have Not” to be running it as a single feature.

The Alpha opened on March 1st, 1928, not 1930 as stated above. See book “Catonsville: 1880 to 1940” by Edward Orser, page 134 and “Images of America: Catonsville” by Marsha Wight Wise, page 72.

The only listing for a theatre I could find in 1928 was the Caton, was this one in the same? Caton AKA Alpha?
