i am researching some of the original architecture and design of the inside of this theater to aide in the restoration efforts of the city of Gallup. i am needing photos and or newspaper articles with photos of the auditorium between 1929 and 1939. specifically i am looking for an image of the pillars on the outside wall that have carved gargoyles atop them. i have searched feverishly here locally to no avail. so i am putting this shout out to the world. Little help please!
thanks in advance!
David
Hi David, I don’t have any photos or drawings to show you, but I live in Gallup and would be happy to assist you in any way I can. I hesitate to give any contact info but…here goes. You can email me at Please use a subject heading mentioning the El Morro so that I don’t just delete it unread.

Doea anyone know what became of the 5-rank Robert Morton pipe organ that was once in this theatre? I was in Gallup a couple years ago and the exterior of the El Morro looks great!
I spent one night in Gallup last summer, but unfortunately it was pouring rain, so I didn’t check out the town before leaving the next morning. I’m sorry I missed seeing this theater.
Just saw a film (Top Gun Maverick) there tonight. It’s in nice condition.
Allen Theatres use to operate this theater until Its last day of operation which was May 1, 2003. Then Gallup brought the theater as its own afterwards.
