This 600-seat theater opened in 1917 on Southern Boulevard near Freeman Street as the Royal Photoplays. During the 20s, it was renamed the Bronx Playhouse. By the mid 30s, it was called the New Royal. Around 1940, it underwent a final name change, as the Radio Theatre.

Its movie house days long over, the former theater now houses an auto repair shop.
