Highway 15 Drive-In

The Highway 15 Outdoor Theatre opened on May 1, 1953 with Rosemary Clooney in “The Stars are Singing” and Randolph Scott in “Hangman’s Knot”. This single-screen drive-in had space for 640 cars. By 1955 it was known as the Highway 15 Drive-In and was operated by National Drive-In Inc. After a windstorm in 1984 blew down the screen tower, the drive-in was closed and never reopened and was later demolished.

Was more than a windstorm. I witnessed the huge bolt of lightning that ripped through the structure of the screen. I lived about 3 blocks from the site at the time and it was visible from our second story window. The owners at the time did not have insurance so they were forced to sell the property. Their plan was to have it re-open within about a month.
